I live and work on an island, which is called Anastasia Island. It is the barrier island to the oldest permanent settlement in the US called St. Augustine.
We have coquina forts which date back to 1565, yet many in our country do not know that this gem exists. Our beach on the island is a white sandy beach which you can ride a bike on and car before sunset.
It is just gorgeous and a pleasure to live in...laid back, lots of history, beachy atmosphere but also host to just under 100 art galleries.
The most peaceful time of year is the Autumn and Spring when the tourist season is quiet. We have a very active Christmas holiday season and our summer is a mass of tourists experiencing history just over the Bridge of Lions from the beach areas.
